Worldwide Picks: Indian Books/Author Chetan Bhagat

Indian Books: Author Chetan Bhagat

I was amazed when I learned that the well-loved 3 Idiots movie was actually based on a book. I was even more surprised that it was the debut novel, written in English at that, by Indian author Chetan Bhagat

Why am I making this a big deal? Because I first saw 3 Idiots back in high school and only knew of its book counterpart now that I've finished college. From the time of its release until now, it's been over a decade and nobody told me - I think no one from my circle even knows. So, I decided to search for this esteemed author, and surprise surprise, turns out he's got eight blockbuster novels on his tab. Pretty impressive, especially since almost all of them have been adapted to the big screen.

I'm always so hyped about adaptations lol. It's just that there is always something taken from the original story, and scenes not in the books that are added to the movie. I get fussy about it because sometimes we only ever see the tip of the iceberg. So here's a list of said books from Chetan Bhagat that I hope would interest you to read. Together, let's see how they differ from their movie versions!

I'll put the book synopsis and movie teasers later.

1. Five Point Someone (2004, book) - 3 Idiots (2009, movie)

2. One Night at the Call Centre (2005, book) - Hello (2008, movie)
