Hi~!
Today, I want to let you in on a little secret: how to download books in PDF and EPUB format for FREE from the Internet!
Not all of us bookworms have access to physical libraries, and even less access to bookstores! It's quite frustrating for old souls like us to not have resources to read, so, I'm introducing 2 ways to get your hands on some e-books. Though letting you on in this, I also want y'all to take precaution because one of these is illegal. However, if your conscience is strong, then I think it's better for you to follow the other way lolz.
Way #1 (legal): Project Gutenberg
[Project Gutenberg is a library of over 60,000 free eBooks. Choose among free epub and Kindle eBooks, download them or read them online. You will find the world's great literature here, with focus on older works for which U.S. copyright has expired. Thousands of volunteers digitized and diligently proofread the eBooks, for enjoyment and education.]
This platform is a library of mostly old books, but fear not, for these books are timeless! You can get your favorite classics from here and then some. And as I said, everything is for free! No harmful links or frivolous ads at all. The best thing about it is it's legal lol. You won't need to fear about copyrights and such.
Here is the Bookshelf, so you can search your latest read by category and here is my favorite category, the Fiction Bookshelf.
To actually download a book, just click on the book you want and you will be redirected to page where you can choose what format of the book to download.
Easy peasy!
Way #2 (kinda illegal): VK
[VK (short for its original name VKontakte; Russian: ВКонта́кте, meaning InContact) is a Russian online social media and social networking service based in Saint Petersburg. VK is available in numerous languages but it is predominantly used by Russian-speakers. VK allows users to message each other publicly or privately; create groups, public pages, and events; share and tag images, audio, and video; and play browser-based games.] - Wikipedia
Now, by all means, VK is a legal site. What I mean by illegal in the description is that the books you can get there are with copyrights and were basically uploaded illegally, making downloads from there illegal, too.
VK is in total contrast to Project Gutenberg. It is not solely a library, just a social medium mostly used by Russians. Like most social media, you can express whatever it is you want to be known. It's pretty much a Russian version of Facebook but with more and cooler aspects.
As per my experience in surfing VK, I've seen movies, music, audio books, and books in pdf, epub, mobi, and fb2 formats. Unlike Project Gutenberg, the books there are the latest, and by latest, I mean that books released in X month, X day, X year will be seen there at the very next week (if not the very next day). But this all depends on whether there are brave souls out there to upload them. If not, your luck is naught.
To search for books in VK, just type in the <title> in your google search bar <space> <format you want, I prefer epub> <vk>.
For example,
"daisy jones and the six epub vk"
When you see the book you want, click on the link or bar under it that indicates what format you want it be.
However, there will be times when the link may not work because the owner (writer/publisher) of the book has issued copyrights claim, or when the user (who posted) has set it to private so he won't be slammed with copyrights claims. But don't fret, just try again!
I hope this has been useful to you, but I do plead that you consider whether or not you are desperate enough to try Way #2 before doing the deed lol.
BONUS:
New to epub and do not have a reader app that can open things of this format?
Then I can recommend you apps to try.
If you're using mobile phones, I suggest you get PocketBook. Just search it up on Play Store, it's free.
If you're on your computer, get Freda. It's free on Microsoft Store, too.
Happy reading! See you on another post~
